An Artfully Layered Home in Naperville, Illinois
A thoughtful balance of old and new, The Collected Contrast celebrates the beauty of a home layered over time. Set in Naperville, Illinois, this renovation blends cherished furnishings, custom craftsmanship, rich textures, and modern touches to create a timeless, welcoming home that feels both collected and distinctly personal.
A beautiful home doesn't always need to be reinvented. Sometimes, the most meaningful transformations come from honoring what already exists and thoughtfully introducing what is missing.
For this Naperville, Illinois, home renovation, our goal was to create a collected, timeless interior that celebrated the home's traditional architecture while introducing fresh, modern elements. Through custom cabinetry, layered textiles, meaningful artwork, and carefully considered furnishings, we created spaces that feel both elevated and approachable, designed for the way this family lives, entertains, and welcomes guests.
In the living room, we worked with several existing pieces, including the sofa and lounge chairs, while introducing a new loveseat, coffee table, textiles, and accessories to create a more cohesive and inviting space. The true showstopper, however, is the custom sideboard designed in collaboration with Midwest Bespoke Cabinetry. Our client loves hosting holidays and needed a beautiful, functional piece to accommodate her collection of serving pieces and silverware. Inspired by the signature turned legs of a desk we designed for another project, we incorporated custom detailing, specialized storage, and a soapstone countertop durable enough for warm serving dishes. It's a perfect example of our belief that function and beauty should always work hand in hand.
The dining room tells a similar story of old meeting new. We preserved the family's cherished dining table, classic Chippendale chairs and a credenza acquired during their time living in Japan, layering in contemporary captain's chairs, updated lighting, a modern mirror, and richly patterned wallcovering. The juxtaposition of traditional furnishings with more contemporary details creates a space that feels collected rather than confined to a particular era. It's an approach we return to often in our work, creating interiors that feel timeless, personal, and full of character.
Upstairs, we reimagined a guest bedroom for the homeowners' adult son, creating a boutique hotel-inspired retreat with a warm, tailored palette, rich textures, and soulful furnishings. We like to think this is the cool room to stay in for him.
The lower level underwent the most extensive transformation. We completely renovated the basement while preserving architectural details worth keeping, including the existing wainscoting. Fresh paint, updated flooring, a new stair runner, and thoughtfully selected finishes gave the entire space a new identity. The existing bar was refinished with painted cabinetry, a new marble countertop, and zellige tile, creating a welcoming place to gather. A casual dining and game area introduces another layer of functionality, while artwork and natural materials bring warmth and personality.
One of our favorite transformations was turning an underutilized area into a beautiful, multifunctional guest space. We removed an existing sink and designed a custom Murphy bed with integrated storage. When closed, the room offers plenty of open floor space for future grandchildren to play. When opened, it becomes a comfortable and inviting retreat for overnight guests. The adjoining bathroom was completely renovated with classic tile, rich color, and thoughtful details that give traditional design a fresh perspective.
Throughout the Weber project, every decision was rooted in creating a home that feels authentic to the people who live there. By preserving meaningful pieces, blending vintage and modern influences, and designing custom solutions around everyday life, we created a home that feels as though it has evolved naturally over time.
Timeless, layered, and deeply personal—just the way we believe a home should be.
